December Update

I hope everyone is doing well. I am enjoying it here in Bogota working at the student center. I spend a lot of my time there helping the students with English and math. We have around 70 students that come in for the lunches. Some of them only come for lunch and then leave. Others use the center as a hang out or a place to study. Sometimes a play ping-pong with them. I have shown some of them how to solve a Rubik's cube. I helped one student who for an English class was doing a project on country music.  All of this is about building relationships in order to have a foundation on which to share with them the gospel.  We were able to see one student come to Christ this semester.

October Update

Hello everyone! Things are going well here in Colombia. I am still tutoring in math and English at the student center and helping with the lunches. Last week we had a garage sell for the students which helped to provide inexpensive clothing and other things for them to buy. The purpose for all of these services is to build relationships with the students which is something that takes time.

Here's something that's new: I have moved out of the house where I was staying. The couple who live there came back to Colombia.  I am now staying at the house where the mission office is located.  It is closer to the student center, so my commute is shorter.

September Update

It's been a month now since I boarded a plane bond for Bogotá, Colombia. So, here's an update as to what I've been doing:

I spent the first two weeks getting oriented to the city and doing the necessary paperwork to live here. During this time, I went to the National Museum and the Gold Museum.

I'm going to Colombia

For those who have not heard the news, I'm not going to Mexico.

Monday, August 6, I leave the States for Bogotá, Colombia. I will be working with indigenous students in Bogotá, Colombia. The purpose of the Indigenous Student Ministry is to evangelize and disciple indigenous students so that they will return to their towns and reservations with the Gospel. The student center is a house near the campus of the national university in Bogotá where the students can come to study, buy a hot lunch, receive tutoring, experience tangible examples of God's love and hear the Gospel.

Please pray for safe travel and a smooth transition as I begin serving in a new capacity.

The Best Missiology Textbook on the Market

Over at Reaching & Teaching, David Sills has written an article entitled The Best Missiology Textbook on the Market.  So what does he say is the best missiological book? I'll give you a hint. It's been around for about 2000 years. The last paragraph sums it pretty well:
The modern missiological arguments and
dilemmas that leave many stumbling,
mumbling, and grumbling today could be
addressed quite easily by shining the light of
God’s Word on them. After all, there is
nothing new under the sun.
Yes, the Bible really is sufficient.
