March Update

Hello, I hope everything is going well with all of you.  Thank you for your prayers.  I am getting adjusted to my new assignment here.  I am finally settled in to my new apartment.  I have gotten furniture and other things needed to make it feel like home.

I have started to do research on the indigenous groups.  A couple of weeks ago, I flew to Risaralda, Colombia to speak to a Wycliffe missionary concerning some of groups with whom he has worked. The trip proved to be quite helpful in clarifying and correcting some information we have.

Also, I have been going downtown with a fellow missionary, Stan, to work with the displaced indigenous in Bogotá.  We have been going to a shelter where many Chamí live.  Once we arrive in front of the shelter, we meet with some new believers at a small restaurant and disciple them over some coffee and empanadas.  We have been teaching them about sin/temptation, prayer, and forgiveness.

One of these new believers, Carlos, had a serious heart condition and was in need of a transplant. Last week, he passed away, leaving a young wife and several children.  His father, Juan, is one of the new believers we have been discipling.  We have been ministering to his family during this difficult time, giving them the hope we have as believers.

Points for Prayer:
• That my transition into these new ministries will continue go well—I still have a lot to learn.
• That I will be able to do the much needed research of the indigenous groups in Colombia.
• That Stan and I will be able to engage the displaced indigenous downtown with the gospel and disciple new believers.
• That Stan and I will be able to minister to Carlos's family.
• That God's Name would be great among all peoples as the gospel is proclaimed.

Thank you again for your prayers.  I could not do this without them.  May the name of Christ be glorified, and may His kingdom advance in the multiplication of biblical, local churches.
