June Update

As I mentioned in my last update, I traveled to Risaralda a few weeks ago to visit with some of the Chamí who moved there last year.  One of the Chamí believers, Juan De Dios, had died a few weeks before my visit.  I was able to visit with his wife Maria Lina and some of the other family members.  I prayed with her and shared some Scripture.  The death of her husband, understandably, has been difficult for her.  Here is a photo of them both taken not long before they left Bogotá for Risaralda.

The town where I stayed reminded me a lot of Pomabamba, where I lived in Peru.  It was good to get away from the city of Bogotá for a while to experience the small town life again, even if only for a few days.  While there, I was able to share the gospel with a few people in the plaza.

Here is a photo of the Jeeps that line the plaza.  They function as taxis to various places outside of Santuario.  One of these is what I used to travel out to farm where the Chamí live.

Here are some specific ways you can continue pray for me:

• Pray that I will be able to engage the displaced Chamí in downtown Bogotá with the gospel.  Some of the Chamí who have stayed in Bogotá are planning on moving to Risaralda within a few weeks.

• Pray for me as I seek out other displaced indigenous groups in Bogotá with whom to build relationships that bear gospel fruit.  One such group that is in Bogotá are the Wounaan.

• Pray for me as I seek to find Colombians believers to help out with the work among the displaced in Bogotá.

• That I will be able to do the much needed research of the indigenous groups in Colombia.

• That I will be devoted to the Word, prayer, and the tasks at hand and grow closer to the Lord each and every day.

• That the Name of Christ would be great among all peoples as the gospel is proclaimed to the ends of the earth.

It shall come to pass in the latter days
    that the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be lifted up above the hills;
and all the nations shall flow to it,
and many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord!"

Isaiah 2:2-3a
